Ramsgate Saturday Market
26th September
2001
| |
Following the success of the Friday market, which is held in the
Staffordshire Street car park and the streets of Ramsgate, Thanet
Council has considered extending the operation.
A survey was recently carried out by the Ramsgate Town Partnership,
who have indicated their support to trial this new arrangement.
It is intended that the full market on a Saturday should take place in
the streets only, and full consultation will be undertaken as part of
the planning process.
In the meantime, part of the Staffordshire Street car park will be
used as an introductory measure to help gauge the need for a Saturday
market. It is hoped that the first day of operation will be Saturday
27 October 2001.
Thanet Council's Cabinet member for Land and Property, Cllr Sid
Farmer, said: "This is an opportunity to build on the success of the
Friday market, and we will monitor the effect on traders."
Mr Lew Hughes, Financial Director for Hughmark International, the
market operator, said: "This is an opportunity to extend the current
market and I am sure that the Saturday market will be a success for
the public and shopkeepers alike." |
